Muchoz mahaloz to Todd Matsumoto, Angie Cariaga, Mike Roth, Kevin Myers, Hannibal Cabacungan, Jeff Marzo, Gordon Ortiz, Lance Patigayon; reception ladies, set-up and break-down crew, sponsors, owners/drivers; and VW Ohana. Because of you VeeDub are very much alive and strong. Having recently catching the ‘bug fever’, and it’s muy caliente HOT, I’ve noticed there not only more VeeDubs on the road, but Shaka Weekend is only getting bigger every year.
It’s never too early to start planning or volunteering for next Labor Day Weekend. I’m sure Pablo already has some thoughts on the next t-shirt design. Anyone recon or suggest next year’s Hot VW photo shoot spot w/a cool background? Kawaihae Harbor, Hawaii Kai or maybe Sandy’s? Follow-on cruise route?
CONGRATULATIONS to all the trophy winners!
The bar’s been raised… With Barry’s recently acquired ‘50 split, another black split, Rick’s Bus rollin’ on 17s, Eddie’s his and her Busses, Colin’s ‘66 velvet green Bus, Glenn’s Razor and ‘Vert, Bruddah’s orange lowlight Karmann Ghia ‘vert each category is getting stiffer competition. Maybe we’ll see more Splits, 21s, 23s, Things, a Shorty, more Razors, more Notches, Heb, Puck, old school chop tops.
Maybe the raffle grand prize can be a Bug? Wishful thinking? Maybe for the 10th Annual Shaka grand prize giveaway… With all the resources and sponsors, why not? There’s probably a Bug in your neighborhood sitting waiting to be donated and be resurrected… With all the local TV coverage by KITV4 News, Oceanic Island Driver, Ohana Road, and nationally Hot VW Magazine, it’ll certainly attract not only locals, tourists, mainlanders, but European and Asian visitors. Anyone post the 9th Annual Shaka Weekend on TheSamba community events yet? I bet some visitors plan their vacation during this period.
Talking to Mike at Yokohama it’s so true that it’s not only in our blood, if you’re from Hawaii you are VW. It’s generational. Talking to Henry awhile back he asked if we’d still be doing this when we’re old. Hell yeah! Just check out Cruise Nights. In one way shape or form we all grew up yellin’ “sample!” and hearing the ‘whoooop’. Some of us even did the sampling and whoooopin’… Some of us don’t have just one but maybe two through five VWs in their stable. It’s because it’s our passion; it’s not just a hobby it’s our lives — “HAPPINESS IS OWNING A HOT VW WITH 48s”
Just my $.02 and random thoughts.
Aloha,
Sal
